Kara has served on the Ohio Animal Foundation Board of Directors since 2022 and currently serves as the board secretary.
Why did you join the Ohio Animal Foundation as a board member?
I joined the Ohio Animal Foundation as a board member because I wanted to get involved in an animal welfare organization within the Columbus community. Being from Ohio, I love that OAF is focused on impact for both pets and wildlife throughout the state of Ohio. I was also interested by the variety of programming that OAF offers.
What do you like most about being an Ohio Animal Foundation volunteer/board member?
I have enjoyed getting to work with a great group of board members and volunteers who all share a passion for animals! I have also enjoyed getting to be a part of Ohio Animal Foundation’s many different programs, especially our small grant program.
Tell us more about yourself.
I am originally from Cincinnati, but I have lived in Columbus since completing my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Ohio State. Professionally, I work in human resources as an HR Business Partner. I love spending time with my friends, family, and pets, being outdoors, staying active, traveling, and rooting for my favorite Ohio sports teams!
How many pets do you have? Tell us all about them!
I have 2 cats, Georgie and June, and a dog (golden retriever), Theo! Georgie and June are both rescues that I adopted as kittens. I like to think that they are friends, but Georgie definitely runs the show! Theo is all things golden retriever to a tee, except he has a big fear of anything water-related!
Where did your love for animals come from?
I think it was innate! I’ve loved all types of animals ever since I was young. I somehow convinced my parents to let me adopt every pet imaginable growing up—turtles, hamsters, guinea pigs—you name it!
Cats or dogs?
This is a tough one, but I have to go with cats! I’ve had cats my whole life!
